Editorial Standards and Research Methods

Fly HR publishes aviation career guides and practical tools for people comparing training, jobs and contracts. The following standards describe the approach we apply to our work.

Authorship and the Daniel Hawthorne pen name

Daniel Hawthorne is a pen name used for fly.hr research and commentary. The name is not a claim of a particular pilot licence, airline role, professional qualification or employment history. The private identity behind the byline is not published. We do not use a fabricated portrait or invented credentials.

Sources and fact checking

For licensing and operating rules, prefer the current regulator or legal text. For vacancies, company status and careers links, prefer official operator pages and authority records. Secondary reporting may provide context; distinguish it from the underlying evidence. Cite the relevant source near the claim where practical and describe uncertainty rather than turning an estimate into a fact.

A source link shows the basis for a statement. It does not mean that the source endorses Fly HR or has reviewed our interpretation. A checked link alone does not verify the employer, working conditions or existence of a current vacancy.

Editorial workflow and accountability

Fly.hr may use software tools to organise source material, process datasets, check links and support drafting and editing. Published claims should remain traceable to cited sources or the article’s dataset, with methods and limitations stated where relevant. Fly.hr is responsible for what it publishes and provides a route to request corrections. We do not imply that every article has received independent expert review. Any future reviewer credit must reflect an actual review, with a defined scope and date.

Editorial workflow: find primary evidence, draft and organise, check claims and limitations, then publish source dates and maintain corrections. This is not a claim of independent expert review.
Formatting and link checks are not independent expert review. Reviewer credits require an actual, defined review. Original Fly HR graphic. View full-size graphic (opens in a new tab)

First-hand accounts and anonymous sources

We distinguish personally experienced accounts from summaries of public information. Interview contributions should specify the relevant period and the experience being described. Protect sources where needed, explain why anonymity is used, and avoid presenting unverified allegations or anecdotes as established facts. Do not send confidential operational material, personal documents or another person’s private information.

Dates and changes

Publication and update dates describe the page history. Source-check dates identify a particular check rather than a promise of continuous monitoring. Material corrections should explain what changed. An automated link check or formatting edit is not an independent factual review.

Tools and salary research

Calculators publish their assumptions and run without transmitting input values to Fly HR. Community salary reports undergo moderation and minimum cohort-size rules. A moderated self-report is not a verified payslip or a representative salary survey. Read each tool’s methodology before using its result.

Images, screenshots and explanatory graphics

Original illustrations may be created with AI and are labelled as illustrations. They do not document a named person, a particular assessment or an employer’s accommodation. Charts use the stated datasets and dates; diagrams explain a concept without implying measured results. Source screenshots are dated excerpts with attribution and a link to the full source. A formatting or image update is not a fresh factual review of every claim on a page.

Commercial independence

The First2Resource job-board links are unpaid editorial recommendations, not sponsored placements. Fly HR does not process applications for those employers. Any future sponsorship or affiliate arrangement should be identified clearly beside the relevant placement; it must not buy an undisclosed editorial recommendation.

Corrections and accountability

Use the corrections page to report an error with its page URL and supporting source. Licensing decisions belong to the relevant authority, and employment or tax decisions may require qualified professional advice.
